After collecting for more than a decade, the collection definitely piles up... About two years ago I started making a organized list in excel, divided the items into categories (albums, singles, bootlegs, vinyl albums, vinyl singles, cassettes etc......), and then registering as much information as possible on each item to avoid buying duplicates. This system has worked out great for me.
Questions is; how do you guys and girls keep track of the collection?

Exactly the same way, i made it last year after i bought a JOS promo twice, only 99p but still thought would be best to compile a list

Exactly the same, too.
Except i sort mine by order of release, so it starts with 1,000 Hours, then finsihes with Working Class Hero. At the end i have Compilations, then Lookouts, PHGP, Frustrators, The Network & Foxboro Hot Tubs
I also have a lis of what i paid for a lot of it, and i will keep a list of what it sells for when i begin my sale NEXT WEEK...??

My list is divided into categories as this is how i organize the collection in real life. First all albums, then singles, then bootlegs etc... Makes it easier to keep track of stuff. I haven't written down what I paid for the stuff, as I started collecting around 1994/1995 and only have had the list for about two years. I also have a list of items that I know I'm missing, something that makes it easier to know what to look for Bigfunction: I can't wait for your sale... How are you going to set everything up?

i use Collectorz.com. it's not free (unless you find a torrent) but it works great. It uses a MS Access-like database. I've used it for my live shows-collection, and now I'm working with it for my regular collection (which I'll be selling for the greatest part). but more on that when I'm ready.

i scanned everything (front back insertrs cds etc...and tagged it in chronoologic order . before i buy an item i just look if i already own a version of it ! i keed these images in 600dpi on a harddrive. I tag like this:
1-year 2-album related to 3-title 4-country of origin
so everything is easy to find , bootlegs are between singles and full lenghts,i seek with the year when i wanna find something

Is it okay if I maybe can do that too? When I will get some stuff to add then.
